  • Sleep helps children grow and develop physically. During slumber, the body produces human growth hormone, which helps children grow taller and stronger.
  • It’s essential for brain development. It also helps the brain consolidate memories and learn new information.
  • A solid night of rest also aids in emotional development, which includes proper stress management.

There are a few things parents can do to help their children get the sleep they need, including:

  • Establishing a bedtime routine and sticking to it. This will help signal to your child’s body that it’s time to wind down for the night.
  • Creating a calm and relaxed environment in your child’s bedroom. This means keeping the lights low and avoiding screens (television, tablets, etc.) in the hour leading up to bedtime.
  • Avoiding caffeine late in the day. Caffeine can stay in a child’s system for up to six hours, so it’s best to avoid it after lunchtime.
